Raised beds or ground-level flower beds, what is your preference? For whatever reason, I just don’t like raised beds. Maybe I should try it out. The look just seems a little funny to me. I think that a spaded out plot in the back lawn just looks better when it’s flat. Maybe it’s just my gardening taste.

Would it matter if the bed contained flowers, herbs, or vegetables? Hmm, I would think it looks best if it was a flower bed. Nah, I just don’t like it. I’ve been seeing these berms that are outrageously tall with shrubs on top!

Let’s move our plant care advice indoors and talk about house plants. We’ve been working in the front yard and back yard with most of our attention on garden beds, so let’s now focus on tips on growing indoor plants.

Are you a cold water or warm water user when it comes time to water your house plants? I make sure to use lukewarm water. I just mix it at the sink, but I have an office mate who keeps the water in a large bottle right next to her plants.

Insects can cause quite a problem for your plants both indoors and out. A co-worker who keeps plants in the office starts her day with a 15 minute session of catching tiny flies in her plants. It’s become quite a routine each day.

Planting seeds at the beginning of the growing season is an act of pure faith. It truly is nothing short of a miracle. Our faith is rewarded when after days of nothing happening, we suddenly see the sprouts coming out of the ground. After a few more days, the plants grow so fast that we can swear we see them stretching towards the sun!

I have quite a collection of seed packets leftover from previous years. I keep them in a box in the garage next to my gardening tools. I love poking through the box and remembering where I bought certain seed packages. It’s like when I was a boy and sorted through my boxes of treasures.

Let’s see what they thought of selecting and sowing seeds in 1884:
